Macular Degeneration is often an age related condition that distorts central vision.
As the name implies, macular degeneration involves degeneration of the retina involved in central vision (the macula). There are two broad conditions, 'Wet' macular degeneration, where new blood vessels grow beneath and within the macula causing swelling and bleeding. Treatment for 'Wet' involves intravitreal injections of medicine to suppress the growth in order to arrest or slow the degeneration of vision. On the other hand, 'Dry' macular degeneration is a progressive destruction of macula function which unfortunately does not respond to injections but supplements will help slow progression.
